- 310 Stainless steel: excellent toughness, low magnetic permeability
Excellent resistance to oxidation under mildly cyclic conditions through 2000°F characterizes 310 Stainless steel. Because of its high chromium and medium nickel contents, 310 Stainless steel has good resistance to sulfidation and other forms of hot corrosion. 310 is widely used in moderately carburizing atmospheres such as encountered in petrochemical environments. 310 is not suggested for the severe thermal shock of repeated liquid quenching. Often in many product forms, the grain size and carbon content can meet both the Stainless steel 310S and Stainless steel 310H requirements. 310 Stainless steel is often used at cryogenic temperatures, with excellent toughness to -450°F, and low magnetic permeability. 310 Stainless steel has a machinability rating of 42% relative to AISI B1112 steel. When using high speed steel tooling, this equates to about 70 surface feet per minute. Forming operations should be performed at room temperature whenever possible. - Stainless Steel 310 (UNS S31000) And 310S (UNS S31008)
Stainless Steel 310, combining excellent high temperature properties with good ductility and weldability, is designed for high temperature service. It resists oxidation in continuous service at temperatures up to 1150°C provided reducing sulphur gases are not present. It is also used for intermittent service at temperatures up to 1040°C. Stainless Steel 310S (UNS S31008) is used when the application environment involves moist corrodents in a temperature range lower than that which is normally considered “high temperature” service. The lower carbon content of 310S does reduce its high temperature strength compared to 310. Key Properties These properties are specified for product (flange, pipe fittings and pipes) in ASTM A240/A240M. Similar but not necessarily identical properties are specified for other products such as pipe and bar in their respective specifications. Composition Typical compositional ranges for grade 310 stainless steels are given in table 1. Table 1. - Type 304 Stainless Steel and Type 304L Stainless Steel
Stainless Steel Grade 304 / 304L | UNS S30400 / UNS S30403 | 1.4301 / 1.4307 These types of steel are some of the most regularly specified and have come to represent the embodiment of the basic stainless product. They are part of the 300 Series of steels which covers a range of austenitic chromium-nickel alloys. They are also known as 18/8 stainless due to their chemical composition which includes approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel by weight. The steels are easy to form, weld, and fabricate and their resistance to corrosion from, amongst other things, acids naturally contained in food has resulted in them being used widely in the food and drink processing industries. Type 304 Stainless Steel and Type 304L Stainless Steel have very similar chemical and mechanical properties and are often included on a single material test certificate when the actual properties of stainless steel flanges meet the criteria of both types. This is a very common occurrence. Type 304L Stainless Steel is a variation of Type 304 Stainless Steel and has a lower carbon content which improves weldability and lowers the risk of reduced corrosion resistance around the weld. Type 304L Stainless Steel also has a slightly lower yield and tensile strength than Type 304 Stainless Steel. As with most steel plate products a number of different designations are used for these steels. The most common are: Type 304 1.4301 (EN Steel Number) S30400 (UNS) Type 304L 1.4307 (EN Steel Number) S30403 (UNS) 304 / 304L Stainless Steel Properties: Typical chemical and mechanical properties of Type 304 Stainless Steel and Type 304L stainless steel: Chemical Analysis (%) PREN Mechanical Properties C CrNiMoProof StressTensileElongation 304.0818.59 – 19235530-73040 304L.0318.59 – 19200500-70040 Typical industrial sectors: Food Processing Chemical Industry Brewing Pharmaceuticals Petrochemicals Typical product applications: Heat Exchangers Stainless Steel Pipes Pressure Vessels Stainless steel flanges Stainless steel pipe fittings Valves Pipelines. - Properties and composition of type 304 stainless steel
wilsonpipeline Pipe Industry Co., Limited is a leading manufacturer of Super duplex stainless steel products including Super duplex stainless steel flanges, duplex steel flanges, Stainless Steel flanges, Stainless Steel pipes, Stainless Steel tubes, Stainless Steel pipe fittings. Stainless Steel 304 Stainless Steel 304 is the most widely used austenitic stainless steel. Also known as ’18-8′ stainless because of its 18 percent chromium content and 8 percent nickel content, 304 stainless steel has good forming and welding properties, as well as strong corrosion resistance and strength, even at extremely low temperatures. Stainless Steel 304 has good drawability, can be formed into a variety of shapes and can often be used without annealing, in contrast to type 302 which must be annealed in order to maintain adequate corrosion resistance Common uses for type 304 stainless steel include in the food industry, for brewing, milk processing, wine making, and in pipelines, yeast pans, fermentation vats and storage tanks. Due to its ability to withstand corrosion by various chemicals found in fruits, meats and milk, it is also found in sinks, tabletops, coffee pots, refrigerators, stoves and various other utensils and cooking appliances. Other areas of use include in architecture, chemical containers, heat exchangers, mining equipment, and in marine stainless steel flanges, stainless steel pipes and stainless steel pipe fittings. Stainless Steel 304L is an extra-low carbon version of the 304 stainless steel alloy. The lower carbon content in 304L minimizes deleterious carbide precipitation as a result of welding. Consequently, 304L can be used ‘as welded’ in severe corrosion environments and eliminates the need for annealing. However, this grade has slightly lower mechanical properties than the standard 304 grade. - Types 316 Stainless Steel and 316L Stainless Steel
Type 316 Stainless Steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that contains between two and three percent molybdenum. The molybdenum content increases corrosion resistance, improves resistance to pitting in chloride ion solutions and increases strength at high temperatures. Type 316 stainless steel is particularly effective in acidic environments, protecting against corrosion caused by sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic, formic and tartaric acids, as well as acid sulfates and alkaline chlorides. Common uses for type 316 stainless steel include in the contstruction of exhaust manifolds, furnace parts, heat exchangers, jet engine parts, pharmaceutical and photographic equipment, valve and pump parts, chemical processing equipment, tanks, evaporators, as well as pulp, paper and textile processing equipment and any parts exposed to marine environments. Type 316L stainless steel is an extra-low carbon version of the 316 steel alloy. The lower carbon content in 316L minimizes deleterious carbide precipitation as a result of welding. Consequently, 316L is used when welding is required in order to ensure maximum corrosion resistance. While similiar to Type 304 Stainless Steel, both Type 316 Stainless Steel and 316L Stainless Steel exhibit better corrosion resistance and are stronger and elevated temperatures. They are also both non-hardenable by heat treatment and can be readily formed and drawn. Annealing 316 Stainless Steel and 316L stainless steel requires heating to between 1900-2100°F (1038-1149°C) before rapidly quenching. Physical Properties: Density: 0.799g/cm3 Electrical resistivity: 74 microhm-cm (20C) Specific Heat: 0.50 kJ/kg-K (0-100°C) Thermal conductivity: 16.2 W/m-k (100°C) Modulus of Elasticity (MPa): 193 x 103 in tension Melting Range: 2500-2550°F (1371-1399°C) Applications Typical applications include: Chemical Industry. - wilsonpipeline Now Offers a Selection of Duplex Stainless Steel products to Meet Customers’ Special
wilsonpipeline Pipe Industry Co., Limited, a leading manufacturer of duplex stainless steel products located in China, is now offering customers a wide range of duplex stainless steel to meet their specialized needs and specifications. wilsonpipeline’s duplex stainless steel can provide customers with a variety of benefits from higher strength and less weight to greater corrosion resistance and better price stability. Yet only a small percentage of the market is currently utilizing these high-value alloys for their investment castings. “Put simply, duplex stainless steel is primarily a combination of austenitic and ferritic grades of steel in varying proportions,” says Frank, wilsonpipeline Staff. “Each has its own properties, which can be combined to produce duplex alloys that meet specialized needs and applications far more effectively than either of the component steels.” Austenitic steel tends to be non-magnetic and more formable, but with lower strength and less resistance to corrosion cracking. Ferritic grades are magnetic and stronger than austenitic steel, but do not weld as well in thick sections and they lose their toughness at low temperatures. Combining the two grades can produce a new set of characteristics that better suit certain applications. “For example, blending austenitic and ferritic steels in approximately equal proportions creates a duplex with highly desirable characteristics for many uses,” says yane. “The resulting duplex tends to have higher strength, good weldability in thicker sections, reasonable toughness and adequate resistance to corrosive cracking.” This duplex stainless steel is very good for a variety of applications: Oil and gas equipment Offshore technology Seawater desalination plants Chemical industry, especially when handling chlorides Flue-gas cleaning Desalination plants and seawater systems Pulp and paper industry Cargo tanks and pipe systems in chemical tankers Firewalls and blast walls on offshore platforms Bridges Storage tanks Pressure vessels, reactor tanks, and heat exchangers Rotors, impellers and shafts Other similar applications “Duplex Stainless Steel, however, are not limited to equal proportions of austenitic and ferritic grades of steel,” says Bates. “Varying the proportions enables us to fine-tune the alloy to produce exactly the stainless steel castings our customers specify. We constantly produce highly customized duplexes, as well as other types of stainless steels.” Duplex stainless steel pipe fittings have varietys of elemental components that achieve the desired specifications when combined in carefully determined proportions. Producing exactly the right formula takes skill and experience. “Our menu of duplex stainless steel is just the start at wilsonpipeline,” says John. “We are constantly creating new and specialized alloys to better meet our customers’ needs.” Company Information – Established in 2008, wilsonpipeline Pipe Industry Co., Limited is a professional organizer and one-stop-shop supplier for duplex stainless steel piping system products, including duplex stainless steel pipe and duplex stainless steel tube, duplex stainless steel forged flange and duplex stainless steel fittings, super duplex stainless steel flanges, duplex stainless steel butt-welding pipe fittings, duplex stainless steel elbow, duplex stainless steel tee, duplex stainless steel reducer, duplex stainless steel stub end, duplex stainless steel gaskets, duplex stainless steel fasteners, duplex stainless steel valves, Sanitary Services etc. in China. - 316L Stainless Steel Differs From 316 Stainless Steel
Grade 316L Stainless Steel is very similar to 316 stainless steel. It is still considered a molybdemum-bearing grade and has properties that make it highly resistant to corrosive degradation. grade 316L stainless steel differs from 316 in that contain lower levels of carbon. The decreased level of carbon in this stainless steel makes this grade immune from sensitisation or grain boundary carbide precipitation. Because of this unique property, Grade 316L Stainless Steel tends to be commonly used in heavy gauge welding situations. Additionally the lower carbon levels make this grade easier to machine. Like 316 stainless steel, 316L Stainless Steel because of its austenitic structure is extremely tough, even in the most extreme of temperatures. Chemical Formula Carbon .03%, Manganese 2.00%, Phosphorus .045%, Sulfur .030%, Silicon .75%, Chromium 16-18.00%, Nickel 10.00-14.00%, Molybdenum 2.00-3.00%, Nitrogen-.10%, Iron- Balanced Inventory 316L Stainless Steel Round Bar, 316L Stainless Steel Angle Bars, 316L Stainless Steel Flanges, 316L Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings, 316L Stainless Steel Pipes, 316L Stainless Steel Elbows, 316L Stainless Steel Hex Bar, 316L Stainless Steel Square Bar, 316L Stainless Steel Tubes, 316L Stainless Steel Rectangular Tubes. Common Trade Names 316L Stainless, 316L Stainless Steel Features Grade 316L Stainless Steel is easily welded by all commercial processes. If forging or hammer welding it is recommended to anneal after these processes to help avoid unwarranted corrosion. Not hardenable by heat treatment, however often cold working the alloy has proven to increase hardness and tensile strength. Sometimes know by industry professionals as marine grade stainless for its uncanny ability to resist pitting corrosion. Applications Grade 316L Stainless Steel is one of the more common austenitic stainless steels. Because of its outstanding toughness against corrosion you can typical find Grade 316L Stainless Steel used in the following applications: Shipbuilding, Nuclear power, Marine engineering, Petroleum, Chemical, Mining,Sewage treatment, Natural gas and Pressure vessels and other industries. - 316/316L Stainless Steel(UNS S31600/UNS S31603)
Grade 316 / 316L | UNS S31600 / UNS S31603 | 1.4401 / 1.4404 These steels are the second most regularly specified stainless steels after Type 304 stainless steel and are part of the SAE defined 300 Series which encompasses a range of austenitic chromium-nickel alloys. Austenitic stainless steels like Type 316L stainless steel is widely available, have good general corrosion resistance, good cryogenic toughness, and excellent formability and weldability. Type 316 stainless steel has 2-3% Molybdenum included in its chemical composition which prevents specific forms of corrosion and generally enhances its corrosion resistance. Type 316 stainless steel is often referred to as “marine grade” stainless due to its increased resistance to chloride corrosion compared to Type 304 stainless steel making it a very suitable material for use in salt water environments. Type 316L stainless steel is a variant of Type 316 stainless steel and differs by having a lower Carbon content as well as slightly lower yield and tensile strengths.
